World Hepatitis Day 2026

As we commemorate World Hepatitis Day in honor of Dr. Baruch Blumberg’s birthday, we are reminded of the bigger picture and the critical role each of us plays within it.

At the Hepatitis B Foundation (HBF) and the Baruch S. Blumberg Institute (BSBI), we continue to lead globally and nationally in advancing work across hepatitis B, hepatitis D, and liver cancer. Every day, our efforts center on prioritizing people impacted by these diseases while working to solve complex scientific challenges.

Our shared commitment remains clear: a world where no one dies from hepatitis B or liver cancer.

Voices From Our Community

To recognize World Hepatitis Day 2026, the Hepatitis B Foundation's #justB storytellers from around the world have shared what hepatitis B elimination means to them. Their voices highlight the importance of awareness, hope, equity, and action as we work toward a future free from hepatitis B.

Espi: Elimination of hepatitis B means a lot to me especially at 85 years old. It gives me peace of mind, hope for longevity, and the possibility of lowering my risk for liver cancer. Being on medication has given me self-confidence, and I am enjoying a healthy fulfilling lifestyle.

Irinam: Hepatitis B elimination must be a promise we keep, not a slogan we repeat every July 28. It means budget lines for HBV in every state, trained health workers in every PHC, and vaccines that reach the last child in Bekwarra and beyond. Policymakers must sit with communities, not just talk about them. When we fund, plan and act together, 2030 becomes possible.
